The Birth of Rock'n Soul - Steven Paul Drakes
By: Carolina Jones - Unsigned, The Magazine
Oh my damn! Thanks to whoever assigned this album to me to review. I didn't expect much being as jaded as I am. But Steven Paul Drakes Rock'n Soul album woke me up out of my music drenched fog. From the opening track to the finish Drakes silky strong vocals and production has redefined soul. Today's radio r&b is bullshit. Indie soul/rap crooner Drakes is that truth that's been missing from commercial soul music for a good while now. He is mature enough to be able to share space on my ipod with Eric Roberson, Pevern Everett and Raheem Devaughn. His vocals remind me of Carl Thomas and that's as close as I can get to a comparison. I would advise the world to look out for Mr. Drakes and as suggested by track 14 "Don't Get Too Comfortable" with mediocre. Demand better for your poor earholes and get yourself a copy of this album! Today.
